Can Anything Good Come From Nazareth?

Do you remember the story in the Bible? Jesus Calls Philip And Nathaneal, John 1:43-51

The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, "Come with me!" (Philip was from Bethsaida, the town where Andrew and Peter lived.) Philip found Nathaneal and told him, "We have found the one whom Moses wrote about in the book of the Law and whom the prophets also write about. He is Jesus son of Joseph, from Nazareth. "Can anything good come from Nazareth?" Nathaneal asked. "Come and see," answered Philip. When Jesus saw Nathaneal coming to him, he said "Here is a real Israelite; there is nothing false in him!" Nathaneal asked him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered, "I saw you when you were under the fig tree before Philip called you". "Teacher", answered Nathaneal, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Isreal!" Jesus said, "Do you believe just because I told you I saw you under the fig tree? You will see much greater things than this!" And he said to them, "I am telling you the truth; you will see heaven open and God's angels going up and coming down on the Son of Man."

The fact that Nathaneal first asked the question "Can anything good come from Nazareth", mean that he already judged Jesus based on where he came from. Instead of meeting him first he compared the physical living area Jesus was born into, to the worth Jesus hold as a man. Only after meeting Jesus did he realize that his preconceived idea of Jesus was totally wrong.

How many times in your life did people judge you based on where you came from? What you did in the past? Your failures and what you've been through?

But what people don't realize is that we serve a good God, a God who doesn't look at where you came from, your past or what you've been through in order to bring goodness out of you. Don't allow anyone to keep you stuck in the past by making you believe that you're only as good as your past. You can overcome any circumstance and create a better and greater future for yourself. John 10:10 says; The thief come only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it in all it's fullness.

I hope and pray that you don't look at your weakness anymore. That you finally see that self-worth is your birth right. That where you came from is not the end of your story, it's only the beginning. It is where you get to grow into the person you were always meant to become. I also hope and pray that you may be blessed with a friend like Philip who will share and bless you with amazing and great opportunities in life. A friend who want better for you and who will support and encourage you by taking you with to the top instead of flaunting their success in your face.

Blessed are they who see beautiful things in humble places where other people see nothing. - Camille Pissarro
